Venture Up is a six-week entrepreneurship business accelerator programme for young New Zealanders, aged between 16-21.
What is a business accelerator programme?
It is a programme of learning, mentorship and growth experience to get your entrepreneurial skillset, personal experience and business venture going bigger, better, & faster.
Who can take part?
If you are between 16-21 years of age, you can apply to Venture Up when the application period opens. The only requirement we have is you must have left secondary school by January of that calendar year before you apply.
How do I apply?
Applications generally open around early September every year. Be quick as it is only open for a few weeks before we move onto the assessing and phone interview stages.
We will be posting updates on both our website & social media channels to indicate when applications open & close for Venture Up so keep eyes peeled out for those!
When and where is Venture Up being held?
The 6 week summer programme runs from early January to mid February. The main reason for this is because it falls within the school holidays.
This year, Venture Up will be based in Auckland. AUT have generously come on board to sponsor the programme and have provided facilities to use throughout the programme. Stay connected through the emailing list below or via social media for any further updates.
The past 2 previous programmes in 2015 & 2016 were held at Victoria University Design School, Wellington.
Do I have to stay for the whole six weeks?
We don't take a roll call every morning but yes, you’ll need to commit for the full programme. Venture Up runs 5 days a week - from 9am-5pm. There are various out-of-hours engagements but how you manage these and any other commitments you have is left up to you.
A bit like real life really. If you are unable to make it or have prior commitments, let us know so we can work together to make it happen.
How much does it cost?
The programme is fully funded by our amazing sponsors so is completely at no cost to you!!
We set you up with accommodation (usually a student hall) and look at covering 2 main meals for the duration of the programme.
The only costs you incur is arranging and paying for your own travel getting there and back (by car, plane, bus or plane, it is up to you!)
There are always cool events happening around during summer such as concerts, sporting events and gigs so bring some cash along to help cover these costs as well as your own personal expenses.
I want to come to Venture Up, but my teammates from my YES company aren't interested. Can I still attend?
Absolutely, we encourage everyone who falls between 16-21 who has the motivation, determination and drive to create change to apply.
Worried about being alone? We guarantee you'll connect with other young, enthusiastic leaders at Venture Up to form a new teams and work on exciting new ventures.
Do we have to carry on with our YES product/service?
Not at all – you can create a totally new product/service if you wish. Be prepared to be challenged every step of the way. If you’d like to carry on with your Young Enterprise Scheme product/service, that’s totally up to you.
I’ve got another question that you haven’t answered here – what do I do?
