VENTURE UP 2019: YOUTH ACCELERATOR SET TO KICK OFF
NZ YOUNG LEADERS READY TO FAST-TRACK THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY
Wellington, 14 January 2019
Venture Up 2019 is officially here and ready to kick off on Monday, January 21st. Back for the fifth year in a row, Venture Up is New Zealand’s leading entrepreneurship accelerator for young aspiring leaders, sponsored by WREDA, Callaghan Innovation, the Ministry of Youth Development, Young Enterprise Trust and hosted by the Victoria University Business School in Wellington.
The Venture Up programme team from Creative HQ is getting ready to welcome the next group of young New Zealanders who will spend the next four weeks being part of a short-term accelerator working on their own startup ideas. The participants will form teams, start new ventures and get ready to pitch their business ideas publicly at a showcase evening on Wednesday, February 13th.
“Programmes like these are a great platform for young entrepreneurs to test their ideas, validate their assumptions and get a taste of the startup ecosystem. Above all else, they learn how to become more confident leaders in their schools and communities,” says Lingy Au, Venture Up Programme Director.
Each Venture Up programme builds on the success of the previous one, with a strong Alumni community at its core. Some familiar faces from previous cohorts include Wellington LIVE founder, Lilia Alexander, Flatpak founder, Emily Blythe, and Nicola Gamble, who started interning with local startup Hnry, immediately after completing Venture Up in 2018.
The 2019 cohort includes participants with a variety of backgrounds – including an impressive list of work and volunteering experiences with organisations like GirlBoss, OMGTech, MindLab, UnYouth, Youthline, TEDxYouth and many more.
“Venture Up is a very tangible way for WREDA to support the continued success of the Wellington startup ecosystem,” says Lance Walker, WREDA CEO. “It’s important we support our next wave of young entrepreneurial talent across the region to build the skills and competencies they need for a dynamic and rapidly changing workforce of the future.”
