Week 6 – And that’s a wrap!

What an amazing journey it has been. I had no idea what to expect when you bring New Zealand’s top young entrepreneurs from around the country and get them to work together in a pressure cooker environment to see what they can produce in the time given to them. It felt like just the other day we were introducing ourselves on the first day of arrival sorting through bags and getting acquainted with what was to be home for the next 6 weeks at Victoria University’s Boulcott Halls of residence.

The last week of Venture Up was focused on pitching, pitching and more pitching! It was so vital to get the tone and message across in a clear and concise manner so the audience in the room would understand their business, how it provides value, and whether or not they wish to hear more afterwards. With that being said, meeting rooms were booked, lecture theatres turned into practice rooms, and feedback was gathered among teams and from mentors who have done an amazing job guiding the teams throughout Venture Up.

The teams were able to scope the venue – Wellington City Gallery, with AV checks performed on the morning of the showcase and have a quick run through to make sure everyone knew what to expect on the night. Excitement began to brew as the countdown started and showtime lights came on, the night of 16th February 2016. The guests arrived one by one and the room was buzzing awaiting pitches. It all came together for each team as they got up and nailed the presentations, showing what they were able to achieve in such a short time! The night wrapped up with thanks being given for sponsors, mentors, and everyone involved with making Venture Up possible.

It was so hard saying goodbye to the Venture Up family with the remaining days used for retrospectives and reflections on what was learnt, what could have been done better, and a plan for those who want to keep in touch after Venture Up finished. Venture Up 2016 has drawn to a close so thank you to all those who made it possible for this great initiative to continue. This is not the last you have heard of us so watch this space if you are interested in getting involved next year!!!
