It takes something pretty special to incite a spontaneous fist pump – but that’s just what happened as I exited the Victoria University Design School late today.
The Venture Up participants wound up the day in an Agile way with a ‘retrospective’ session. If the echoed comments on intensive practical learning, marked personal growth, and being in great company are any indicator – well, I think we nailed week one. A massive thank you to all who contributed to such an outstanding first week.
Highlights along the way included:
Day 1: Claudia Batten skyping in from Boulder, Colorado for a solid dose of ex-pat inspiration, pitching a slew of ideas and forming teams – yes, these guys don’t muck about, we had ventures and teams nailed on Day 1!
Day 2: demystifying ‘resilience’ with Nick Rowney, learning and perfecting the art of the ‘elevator pitch’ before our first Mentor Mixer
Day 3: MVP and Business Model Canvas workshops with Alan Hucks, CHQ Incubation Manger
Day 4: Simon Swallow sharing his top tips on early customer engagement and problem validation, Mike Riversdale sharing insights around building awesome teams, another hopping Mentor Mixer
Day 5: field trip to Optimal BI and top presentation by Victoria McLennan, and getting the low-down on all things legal from Bruno Bordignon. Phew!
Along with all the work teams have done to identify their market, develop their value proposition, survey customers and schedule meetings, well – if the momentum continues you’re really going to want to watch this space. Week two beckons… bring it on!
